FBHA Working to Gather Data on Firefighter Suicides

Monday, 20 May 2013

The tracking and collection of data of firefighter/EMT suicides is necessary to fully understand and address behavioral health issues within the fire service. For the past two years Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance (FBHA) has taken the lead in collecting such data. Their web site, www.ffbha.org, has a confidential report to be filled out by fire departments, firefighters, or family members. FBHA does not ask for the name of the deceased, but does look for items such as age, method, active or retired, state, and any known issues the member was suffering from. There is a comment section and contact information box as well. If you know of a firefighter or EMT that has committed suicide, please report it to FBHA by going to www.ffbha.org and click the tab for FF Suicide Report on the left.
