NVFC Completes 2011 Health Fair Tour

Tuesday, 05 July 2011

It’s been a busy five months for the National Volunteer Fire Council’s (NVFC) Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program. Since the end of January, the Program has taken its interactive health fair – which includes a trade show booth, workshops, health screenings, and more – to thirteen states across the United States.

Hundreds of firefighters took advantage of free cholesterol and glucose screenings and learned more about the NVFC’s programs at the Heart-Healthy Firefighter trade show booth at nine fire schools and conferences. The Health and Wellness Advocate Workshop was offered in eight states this year, and the new Behavioral Health Workshop took place in five. The states the health fair visited in 2011 include Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia. In addition, a fitness demo, sponsored by Honeywell, was part of the NVFC booth at FDIC in Indiana.

The NVFC thanks all of the firefighters, EMTs, vendors, and families who stopped by the booth or took a workshop this year. Find more events that the NVFC will be attending at www.nvfc.org/calendar. We hope to see you again soon!
