2011 National Firefighter Health Week Themes Announced

Wednesday, 02 March 2011

Each August, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) asks firefighters and emergency personnel nationwide to take a week to focus on their health and wellness during National Firefighter Health Week. As a first responder, you have to be ready for the next call that comes in, and being at your best mentally and physically are the best tools for the job. As this year’s theme states: “When it comes to your health, you’re always on duty.”

This year’s National Firefighter Health Week will be held August 14-20. Sunday and Saturday have been added to further help firefighters and EMTs achieve their goals for personal and department health and to make sure that all duty shifts have the opportunity to participate. Each day will have a special focus:

  • Sunday, August 14: National Firefighter Health Week Kick-off
  • Monday, August 15: CRISIS: Understand the Risk
  • Tuesday, August 16: DISPATCH: Get Support
  • Wednesday, August 17: SIZE-UP: Make a Plan
  • Thursday, August 18: ATTACK: Take Action
  • Friday, August 19: OVERHAUL: Live Life
  • Saturday, August 20: Health Week Wrap-Up and Event Day

More details about each focus day as well as resources and information specific to each day’s topic will be released soon. Stay tuned to the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program web site and E-news for special Health Week announcements and planning tools.
