Heart Fair Goes to New York and Oregon
|Tuesday, 06 July 2010|
The National Volunteer Fire Council’s (NVFC) Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program trade show booth had two successful outings in June. Hundreds of attendees at conferences in New York and Oregon stopped by the NVFC’s interactive exhibit booth to receive free cholesterol screenings and get more information about firefighter health and wellness.
Since 2003, The Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program has been traveling the country to provide resources and information to help combat the number one cause of line-of-duty firefighter deaths – heart attack. In June, the program exhibited at the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs Annual Conference and Expo in Verona, NY, and the Oregon Volunteer Firefighters Association Conference in Hermiston, OR. In addition to health screenings, visitors to the booth could pick up publications and resources such as the Emergency Vehicle Safe Operations guide, a toolkit for securing sponsors for department health and wellness programs, and the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Cookbook. Learn about these resources and more on the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program web site.
The Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program also hosted the Health and Wellness Advocate Workshop at each show to train first responders in New York and Oregon how to be a health advocate in their department and implement a successful health and wellness program. View a listing of upcoming workshops at www.healthy-firefighter.org/workshops.
The Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program will next exhibit at the North Carolina State Firemen’s Association Conference from August 13-14 in Raleigh, NC. Stop by and find out more about all of the NVFC’s programs at the NVFC booth at Firehouse Expo, June 20-25 in Baltimore, MD, and Fire Rescue International, August 24-28 in Chicago, IL.
