Health Fair Goes Coast to Coast in June

Tuesday, 01 June 2010

The Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program will be taking its interactive trade show booth east and west this month to provide health screenings, a Wii Fit™ fitness challenge, resources, and information to first responders and their supporters. Stop by booth # 3117-3120 at the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs Conference and Expo from June 9-12 in Verona, NY, and the Oregon Volunteer Firefighters Conference in Hermiston, OR, on June 21-25. Click here for more information.

Attendees at both shows can take advantage of the NVFC’s Health and Wellness Advocate Workshop. This free workshop is designed to train firefighters and emergency services personnel to become advocates for health and wellness within their departments, encouraging and motivating their fellow first responders to adopt heart-healthy behaviors. The instructors teach attendees the basics of kinesiology, motor learning and control, nutrition and healthy eating, and weight management. They then show attendees how to build a program for their departments, including the basics for establishing goals, strategies, and program components and end the session with a hands-on exercise demonstration.
