Sign up for a Start! Heart Walk Today

Tuesday, 06 October 2009

Looking for a group fitness activity for your fire department? Consider signing up for one of the 470 American Heart Association (AHA) Start! Heart Walk

events taking place across the nation. This is the fifteenth year the AHA has held Start! Heart Walks to raise money to fight the nation’s number one and number three killers - heart disease and stroke.

Firefighters are not immune to this deadly statistic; each year, almost half of all line-of-duty firefighter fatalities are the result of heart disease. The NVFC actively fights against heart disease in the fire and emergency services through its Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program. In addition, the NVFC has implemented an employee health and wellness program. The NVFC staff will walk to lower the risk of heart attack and stroke for all Americans during the Greater Washington Start! Heart Walk on November 15 on the National Mall in Washington, DC.
