Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 4-10
|Tuesday, 06 October 2009|
You’ve used the resources and tools from the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program to make sure you’re in top physical health, but you probably know that your mental health is just as important. October 4-10 is Mental Illness Awareness Week. The week, which is sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is an opportunity for you and your department to focus on your mental health.
Utilize the resources from the Heart-Healthy Firefighter Program’s National Firefighter Health Week Resource Center to learn more about behavioral and mental health for first responders. Take advantage of National Depression Screening Day on October 8 to find a local screening event or take an online screening any time by visiting www.mentalhealthscreening.org/events/ndsd/index.aspx. Observe World Mental Health Day on October 10 by distributing mental health information to your whole department.
Your heart, body, and mind are the best tools you have for the job. Find more tools and information for your total health at www.healthy-firefighter.org.
