Register Now for the Heart of America Emergency Services Games

Wednesday, 02 September 2009

There is still time to register for the 2009 “Heart of America” Emergency Service Games, held September 24-27, 2009, in Wichita, KS. The games are hosted by the Kansas Police and Fire Athletic Association to promote a common goal of better health and wellness for the Midwest’s first responders by engaging in activity and sport.

Most people are best able to achieve results with a goal in mind, whether it is to loose weight, train for a race, or organize a department sports team. The “Heart of America” games gives first responders a yearly goal that inspires them to continue their activity and sport throughout the year and practice good habits that enable them to live healthier while working to protect and serve their communities. The event is also an opportunity to build camaraderie between the different branches of the emergency services. In addition, community members feel safer knowing that their emergency responders are dedicated to health and fitness.

All law enforcement offices, career and volunteer firefighters, EMTs, dispatchers, and other emergency services personnel and their spouses are eligible to compete in the games. The competitions include:

  • Mixed Martial Arts/Jiu-jitsu
  • Flag Football
  • Triathlon
  • Bench Press
  • Golf
  • 5K Family Walk/Run
  • Track and Field
  • Basketball
  • Billiards
  • And more!
